Homeless Management Information System
What is HMIS?
A Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is a local information technology system used to collect client-level data and data on the provision of housing and services to homeless individuals and families and persons at risk of homelessness. Each Continuum of Care (CoC) is responsible for selecting an HMIS software solution that complies with HUD's data collection, management, and reporting standards.
In the Northern Colorado CoC, Homeward Alliance serves as the HMIS Lead Agency, taking on the responsibility of managing our local HMIS. We strive to capture client-level information on all households experiencing homelessness in Northern Colorado. With this data, we evaluate system performance and inform local and regional efforts to end homelessness.
The software solution we use for HMIS is Clarity Human Services. Our HMIS system spans across all four CoC’s in Colorado, meaning it is a statewide implementation with all-encompassing data on people experiencing homelessness.
Who is using HMIS?
Federally funded agencies are required to use HMIS, while other agencies who do not receive federal funding choose to use HMIS. Since HMIS is the primary source of data for people experiencing homelessness in the state of Colorado, we encourage all homeless service providers to use the local HMIS.
